Over 30 million presentations are created daily, and more than 500 million people use Microsoft’s PowerPoint. Here’s a few basics to help you enhance your presentation.
1) Themes & Variants
The easiest way to get started in PowerPoint is by selecting a stock theme. There are a variety of preset options for you to choose from. Microsoft has added a variant feature that allows you to easily change the color, making your design more unique.
To find Themes and Variants, simply navigate to the Designs Tab in PowerPoint. 
2) Slide Master
If you decide to create a custom theme, Slide Master is a tool that can help you achieve the perfect look. To open the Slide Master, navigate to the View Tab and the Select the Slide Master.
There are two different types of slides you can edit under Slide Master: The Slide Master and the Layout Masters.
When you edit the Slide Master slide, all slides following suit will reflect those changes. This is helpful for putting a logo on every page or formatting text or the background.
A majority of what you will edit will probably be a Layout Master, which is related to the master. Layout Masters are different formats of the slides, and when you edit one of them, only that form will change.
3) Design Ideas
Another feature that can assist you in altering slide designs is Design Ideas. This feature automatically generates slide designs using the information on the slide.
To use this feature, navigate to the Designs Tab. On the right hand side there will be a tool titled Design Ideas. Once you click on that button, PowerPoint will suggest a variety of options for you to choose from. Once you have the one you like, simply select it from the menu.
*Note: Design Ideas is currently only available to those using PowerPoint as part of an Office 365 subscription.
